Only 30 per cent of homeowners know how to care for their lawns and most don’t even know what kind of grass they have, according to new research by Turf Australia. The reseach also found that 82 per cent of Australian home owners have a backyard lawn and 74 per cent have a frontyard lawn, while 63 per cent think a nice looking lawn makes a house a home.
Turf plays a critical role in the general health and welfare of Australia and is not only a major source of beauty and comfort in our lives, but also a cleansing answer to our environment.
“You don’t need a green thumb or long hours in the yard to make your lawn the envy of your neighbours,” says landscaper, horticulturist and TV personality, Jody Rigby. “Thankfully, warm season grasses like Buffalo, Couch and Kikuyu all vary in maintenance requirements so you can choose a grass that suits your lifestyle.”
Anthony Muscat, owner of turf farm Greener Lawn and board member of Turf Australia, says new types of grass are not as thirsty as many believe. “Although new grass needs to be kept damp for about two weeks, established lawns only require a deep watering once a week,” he says.
Of course, mowing a lawn also provides valuable exercise, so don’t hold back this summer! Visit turfaustralia.com.au
