Colour consultant Samantha Bacon thinks that the range of user-friendly berry tones that sit comfortably between red and purple in the colour spectrum are great for interior decorating.
Raspberry is probably the softest and prettiest of all the berry tones and lends itself perfectly to country-style decorating, particularly in living and dining areas. Burgundy is closely related, but where raspberry is a lighter and more delicate tone – one that contains a fair amount of pink – burgundy is more suited to a gentlemen’s club or a stately English home.
Green is a classic partner to raspberry and presents a great way to take a typical country palette from the garden and apply it to the interior of a home. Soft-warm whites that contain an undertone of pink can also work well. Warm, natural skin-tones are popular neutrals for 2010 and in light off-white through to warm biscuit shades, they work very well with raspberry. This colour combination is excellent for south or east-facing rooms that don’t get a lot of natural light. Th ese are the areas in a house that tend to be the coolest, and the luscious raspberry hues partnered with biscuit neutrals are the perfect way to lend them warmth. Raspberry can also be used in dining rooms as a lighter and less sombre alternative to classic red.
Resene has a comprehensive range of off-whites and neutrals, and Biscotti and Doeskin are perfect partners to Resene Raspberry and Rendezvous. Th e neutral range from Resene comes in quarter, half, full, and often double and triple strength, so it’s easy to put together a palette you’re confident will work. Of course, Resene also has many other hues in its range and the richness of these affords the opportunity to add a great shot of colour that’s sure to bring a palette of neutrals to life. Soft furnishings are an excellent way to introduce rich tones to a decorating scheme and Laura Ashley has a fantastic range of fabrics that are ideally suited to country decorating – Marciana and Maxwell in Cranberry work especially well with this Resene palette.
