Coastal Chic
Whether you live near the seaside or not, let the ocean inspire your home all year round. It's a look we love called 'coastal chic'.
Picture-perfect
It's all happening here – a soothing palette of neutral hues, furniture painted white and limewashed walls. The collection of beautifully framed seashells is the perfect complement. Carver chair and sideboard are from the Hampton range of Carina Sherlock. Also shown, Tali ball recycled glass. |

Gathering shells
Bring the outdoors in and display a group of shells and other sea 'bounty' on a shelf or bookcase. Then make your next trip to the shore a treasure hunt by looking for driftwood or pebbles to add to the decor.

|
A means to an end
Keep your library neat and shipshape with beachside motifs as bookends. Real shells and driftwood certainly do the trick, but ceramic or timber ones add that subtle 'coastal' air.

Hidden treasure
Nothing says 'beach house' like anything whitewashed. Pick up items from garage sales and second-hand stores, paint them white or limewash them, then sand the surface back in places to give it a sun-bleached look. |
|
Texture, texture, texture
Whether it's fish and chips or freshly shucked oysters, team a solid timber dining table with elegant woven chairs to imbue any occasion with a relaxed seaside atmosphere.

|
Nautical notions
Nothing says nautical like yellows and blues. From the top, Blue Denim in Buttercup, Mini Check in Yellow, Maple Stripe in Yellow/Blue, Linen Look-alike, Airforce Blue in plain weave, Small Woven Check in Linen and Plain Coated-Teflon in Oatmeal - all from Biggie Best. |
|
Mix and match
Take these stunning assorted woven checks and stripes from Biggie Best and re-cover your favourite chair or sofa. Or, for an added splash of colour turn them into generous accent cushions. |

TIPS FOR A SOPHISTICATED BEACH STYLE
- Tone down harsh of white walls and add instant warmth with paint in creamy hues.
- Include soothing shades of tranquil blue on a ceiling. This is especially effective if you have rafters or gables.
- Natural materials are elemental to a seaside look. Try woven fibres as an easy way to add texture with bamboo, rattan, sisal, seagrass and jute for floor coverings and mats, furniture and even decorative items such as screens to define areas within large spaces.
