Country Kitchens - Federation Charm
Six years after buying their house, Vicki and Paul Haynes finally finished a massive renovation and extension project to complete their Federation-style home – and the kitchen was the 'lucky last' piece of the puzzle.
One of Vicki's favourite parts of the refurbishment was researching the Federation style and seeking out period features to suit their new home. She found some things, such as the coloured leadlights for the kitchen, well before they was due for construction but bought them anyway, keeping them in storage until they were needed. "I knew what I wanted," she admits, "and I didn't want to miss out on anything. Frequently you see something you love and when you go back a few months later, it isn't there any more."
It's a lovely country kitchen with creamy colours, and has a warm, family atmosphere. Vicki pored over magazines, clipping bits out of kitchen features that she liked, then took them to Atwells, where the kitchen was designed and made to measure.
