Country Kitchens - In Good Time

We all know the saying, 'good things come to those who wait' and, in Maria Papadatos's case, it was her kitchen.
Maria Papadatos knew exactly what she wanted in a kitchen, but she had to wait seven years before it finally arrived.
The Papadatoses bought their stunning Californian-style bungalow home nine years ago and, at the time, it had a two bedrooms. With a family on the way, however, it just wasn't going to cut it and after their first son was born, they decided to extend it and renovate. More rooms and living space were added, and two years ago, the kitchen was completed.
The existing kitchen was tiny but had a minimal upgrade initially, then it was done again when the house was extended. In fact, it was moved to the new part and the old one converted into a bathroom – for which it's a perfect size.
Maria knew she wanted a relaxed country-style kitchen to match the rest of the place, and it also had to be attractive and easy to work in. She scoured magazines for ideas and came across an advertisement for Country Field Kitchens and Furniture – in Country Home Ideas magazine. In a few of these, Maria saw aspects of the kitchen she wanted and when she'd narrowed it down to two designs, she went to the showroom. Then, rather than choosing one or the other, she chatted to the staff and the two were merged for her. "It actually came together pretty quickly," she admits, "but I think that's because I knew what I wanted."
