Country Kitchen - Modern Victorian

continued...

Judy's favourite part is the walk-in pantry complete with old-style tins, and even a mincer. "There are often one or two people hanging around deciding what to eat," she laughs. "The tins were mainly presents and the mincer came from an antique store near Bathurst." Jars holding over 50 spices, from asafoetida to turmeric, hang from the shelves. Although Judy enjoys cooking, she insists, "it's the men's responsibility in this house."

The timber cabinets have reproduction antique brass fittings and the benchtops are made of granite, chosen "because it looks like marble". The flooring is recycled timber and made from the bearers that were taken out of commercial buildings dating back to the 1880s, and re-milled. The Hannans are all thrilled with the way the whole place turned out and, as for the kitchen, Judy says, "I wouldn't change a thing."
